Practical informartions
The Award of Awards in the Short Film Category will be awarded on Saturday the 26th of April 2008 during the final evening of the festival by an international jury composed of world famous animators and experts, called upon to select the best of all the films which have received an award in one of the most important festivals or international events this decade. Only the films that have received such recognition between the 1st of January 2000 and the 1st of March 2008 qualify for the Award of Awards.
The prizes allowing for qualification in the short film category are as follows:
- The Grand Prix at the Festival International du Film d'Animation at Annecy (France), the first and most prestigious festival in Europe and worldwide, founded in 1960
- The Grand Prize at the Animafest in Zagreb (Croatia), the second most established International festival, founded in 1972
- The Grand Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (Canada) the oldest non European festival, founded in 1976
- The Grand Prize of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival (Japan), the second oldest non-European festival, founded in 1985
- The Oscar for the Best Short Animated Film, awarded since 1932 by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Hollywood
- The BAFTA Award for the Best Short Animated Film, awarded since 1989 by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in London
- The Cartoon d'Or, awarded since 1991 by Cartoon supported by the European Unions MEDIA programme, choosing from among the winners of all the major European festivals.
